Match report based on the report from the Sounders Select:

The Seattle Sounders Select scored a late goal to defeat the Cascade Surge 2-1 in Salem, OR. Select defender Bryn Ritchie scored the match-winning goal in the 80th minute.

Ritchie's match winner came on a corner kick, after he entered the match in the 61st minute. Midfielder Mark Hogenhout took the corner kick and hit an in-swinging ball into the penalty area. Ritchie in traffic was able to use his height at 6-2 to out-leap a Surge defender and head the ball into the lower right corner of the net.

The Select had taken the lead in the 40th minute. There was a scramble on the left side in the penalty area, about 12 yards from goal. After a shot by the Select deflected off a Surge player, the rebound came to midfielder Chris Farnsworth, who with Surge players around him was able to get a short pass off to midfielder Sean Sylvis. Sylvis trapped the ball and shot quickly, beating the Surge goalkeeper Richard Goddard who had come out of the net to cut down the angle.

Cascade tied the score in the 43rd minute, taking advantage of a Select defensive mistake. Surge forward Miguel Camarena made a run through the six-yard goal area and received a pass. Camarena shot the ball first time, beating Select goalkeeper Jonas Tanzer to his right.

With the victory the Select improve their regular season record to 9-0-0 and lead the Northwest Division.

Post Game Quotes - Select Coach Gerry Gray:
I thought that we were solid in the back tonight. We did not take advantage of a few opportunities in the first half. We were able to turn things around in the second half and score when we had to, and get the victory. I thought that we deserved to win and we also deserved to be 9-0. We have been a pretty good team so far.

Select Defender Bryn Ritchie:
That's really Mark (Hogenhout's) goal. He had the nice cross, all I had to do was head the ball in. This is a good win for us. We had to play hard tonight. Cascade gave us a game. They are a physical team and played hard.
