The Seattle Sounders scored four goals in the first half en route to a 5-0 smoking of the Northern Nevada Aces in a US Open Cup Qualifying match played Sunday afternoon in Reno, Nevada. Sounders forward Viet Nguyen scored two goals to lead the attack.

Nguyen scored the first and match-winning goal in the 23rd minute. After the first goal, the goal barrage continued with forward Jason Farrell (32nd minute), Nguyen (36th minute) and midfielder Peter Hattrup (45th minute) scoring. Midfielder Chad Brown scored his first goal of the season in the 81st minute to conclude the scoring.

Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo made four saves to earn his second shutout in two days. Seattle (4-2-1) outshot Northern Nevada (0-6-0) 19 to 8. Aces goalkeeper Rob Buchanan made 10 saves.
