The Seattle Sounders Select defeated the Denver Cougars 3-1 in a first round Western Conference PDL match played at the Santa Ana Bowl in Santa Ana, CA. Midfielder Sy Reeves scored the match-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Seattle advance to play the winner of the Orange County and Calgary match in the Conference final tomorrow evening.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead when forward Greg Foisie scored in the 54th minute. Foisie received a pass from Select defender Bryn Richie and moved around a defender and scored.

Denver bounced back to tie the score at 1-1, when Brandon Baker scored in the 68th minute on a pass from Nat Borchers.

Reeves' goal came after a Cougars player was ejected in the second half. Midfielder Alan Ramirez was ejected in the 79th minute. With Denver playing at ten men, Seattle were able to take advantage of situation. Midfielder James Vert took a shot that was blocked by the Denver goalkeeper. The rebound came to Reeves who was able to score into a vacated net.

Midfielder Todd Stauber scored an insurance goal in the 87th.

Select Men's goalkeeper Carlos Castellanos played well in victory, and made several great saves in the second half. This was the first ever meeting between Denver and Seattle.

"We came out flat in the first half, but we were able to pick it up and play better in the second half. We got tougher and tougher as the game went on. This was a team victory today."
