The Seattle Sounders Select Women were outgunned from the start, losing 3-0 to the Vancouver Breakers in their first ever W-League match played before 2,624 people at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC.

Vancouver applied pressure from the start and scored the first goal on an excellent strike from a freekick in the 6th minute. A Seattle foul set up the free kick at the edge of the penalty area. Midfielder Andrea Neil took a hard right-footed shot that whistled past goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen.

Rosalyn Hicks increased the Breakers lead to 2-0 when she scored from 22 yards out in the 16th minute. Hicks got an errant Select Women's pass just outside the penalty area. Hicks took a step towards goal and hit a hard left-footed shot that beat Jorgensen to the short side.

The Breakers applied pressure again in the second half to score their third goal. Neil had a hard shot 12 yards from goal that Jorgensen made the save on. However she could not control the rebound, which went to midfielder Tammy Crawford, who slotted the ball into the goal from inside the six-yard box.

Seattle's best scoring chance occurred in the 74th and 76th minutes when substitute Katlin Miyake had two potential breakaways called back on offside calls. Vancouver goalkeeper Nicci Wright made two saves to record the shutout.

On the Injury Front:
Select Women's defender Andrea Morelli, who plays college soccer at the University of Washington, suffered a season ending injury in the match. Morelli suffered a torn ACL, which happened while running down the field with a Breakers player in the 10th minute. She is lost for the remainder of the season.
