Match report from the Sounders:

Vancouver scored once in each half and the Whitecaps handed the Pacific Division leading Seattle Sounders a 2-0 setback Sunday at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby. It was the second straight time Seattle failed to score a road goal against the Whitecaps. Vancouver blanked Seattle 1-0 back on June 20th.

This was the back end of a home and home series between the two rivals. The Sounders and Vancouver played to a 1-1 draw 24 hours earlier in Seattle.

For the second straight match the Whitecaps scored in the first ten minutes. In the 10th minute Jason Jordan ran the ball to the top of the penalty box and sent the ball screaming off the right post past the diving Sounders keeper Preston Burpo. Carlo Corazzin ran down the rebound and popped it in from six yards for his first goal of the season.

Seattle missed an opportunity to tie the game in the 75th minute. Vancouver goalkeeper Mike Franks misjudged Ben Somoza's throw-in off the right side. The ball bounced through the six-yard box to Sounder forward Kyle Smith. But Smith couldn't control the loose ball and after it ping ponged through the six yard box the Whitecaps were finally able to clear the ball to midfield.

Vancouver put the game away in the 86th minute. The Sounders moved everyone forward for a free kick from midfield and when the Whitecaps cleared the ball out from atop the penalty box it created a 3-on-2 rush through the middle of the field. Johnny Sulentic finally slid the ball to his right and Oliver Heald went in uncontested on Burpo and scored off his right foot from 16 yards.
