Match report from the Sounders:

The Vancouver Whitecaps scored late in the first half and held on to defeat the Seattle Sounders, 1-0, Friday at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The Whitecaps were the aggressors throughout the match, especially in the first half, outshooting Seattle 11-4 (18-4 for the match). After numerous scoring chances in the first 30 minutes, Vancouver finally capitalized on their constant pressure, getting on the board on Johnny Sulentic's goal in the 40th minute, assisted by Oliver Heald.

Seattle generated little pressure in the second half until the final minutes when Herculez Gomez was inserted into the match. Gomez helped create Seattle's lone scoring chance in the 90th minute only to be stopped when the ball banged off the back leg of a Vancouver defender two yards above the goal. It was the first regular season match for Gomez, who has been out since the preseason with a foot injury. Gomez is on loan to the Sounders from the Los Angles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.
