For the third time this season the Seattle Sounders won the back end of a two-game road trip. The Sounders had dropped a game in Atlanta just 24 hours earlier, but behind two goals from Welton, they bounced back and defeated the Charleston Battery 3-1 in A-League action Friday at Blackbaud Stadium.

After being held scoreless in each of their past two matches, Seattle struck twice in the first half. Roger Levesque took a pass from Jonathan Bolaņos into the penalty area off the left post. Drawing out Charleston goalkeeper Dusty Hudock, he slid a pass to Welton who knocked in his 6th of the season from six yards out in the 23rd minute.

The Sounders were back on the attack ten minutes later. A blast off the left side by Bolaņos was deflected out to Danny Jackson who beat a Battery defender to the ball and from 25 yards struck the ball with his right foot. The strike arched past Hudock just inside the right post.

Seattle spent much of the second half protecting their slim lead. Finally Welton salted the game away in stoppage time. He picked up a ball at midfield, dribbled past three Battery defenders and blasted in his 2nd goal of the night and 7th of the season.
