Sounders Women can't beat the heat, suffer first loss to Heatwave in OT

(Scottsdale, AZ) - - The Seattle Sounders Women suffered their first loss of the 2004 season, falling 3-2 to the conference leading Arizona Heatwave in overtime. The scoring came early in the game as Sounders midfielder Michelle French tied the game at 2-2 in the 47th minute.

Heatwave forward Julie Williford opened the game with a goal in the 8th minute of play. The Sounders Women were able to respond in the 25th minute off an assist by Alicia Milyak when forward Erin Redwine scored her first goal of the season.

The Heatwave answered quickly, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 36th minute. Just after halftime the Sounders Women tied the game at 2-2 when French scored in the 47th minute. She was assisted by Milyak.

At the end of regulation the score was 2-2 and headed into overtime. In the 97th minute, Heatwave second half substitute, foward Alison Heydorn scored the game winning goal, giving the Sounders Women their first loss of the season. The Sounders Women are now (3-1-1, 10pts).
