Match report by Ron Stickney:

The visiting Gonzaga University Bulldogs put on a good show, beating a Sounders team of mostly trialists 2-1. The only veteran Sounders who played were Kevin Sakuda and Scott Jenkins. This was the first preseason match of 2005.

13' Nelson own goal. After a 10-yard blast from the left was saved by a collapsing James Ward, the rebound was hammered onto the center of the crossbar by Luke Miller, and the rebound off the bar was inadvertently knocked in by Skylar Nelson.

The Sounders did not manage a good shot in the first half. John Reha and George Josten came close for the Zags in the half.

51' Hopp (Nelson). A diagonal forward pass was served by Nelson to Ryan Hopp at the left end of the arc. Hopp managed to move free of two defenders and finished nicely with a low, hard shot to the far corner.

79' Sawyer (Owens). Steve Owens got in close on the left for a good shot that was parried wide by Ward, but Ben Sawyer was alone past the far post to put away the rebound.

The Sounders had several good chances that were saved by Vito Higgins, including shots by Franklin Chacon, Jeremy Milsten, Luc Harrington and Brett Wiesner. Scott Jenkins was first to a free kick in front of goal and finished it, but was flagged offside on the play.

The Zags had a few good shots, and they all seemed to come from Josten.

Misconduct: 42' SEA - Milsten cautioned. 44' SEA - Gregor cautioned. 85' SEA - Nelson cautioned.

Referees: Shahram Pourazari; Brian Ames, Steve Brannon.
