Match report from the Sounders:

The rivalry between the Seattle Sounders Women and the Vancouver Whitecaps Women intensified on Saturday night as the two teams battled at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. After a tight, fast-paced match, the Whitecaps were able to hold on for a 2-0 victory and avenge their only loss of the season which they suffered at the hands of the Sounders earlier in the season.

Both teams came out aggressive as the first half saw many scoring opportunities for each side. The Sounders came close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute when Seattle's Karly Larson flicked a header over the top to Chalise Baysa. Baysa blasted a shot on goal from the right side of the penalty area, but Vancouver's keeper, Sian Bagshawe, was up to the test and tipped the ball over the bar. Two minutes later, the Sounders threatened again as a pass was laid off for Nicole Garbin on top of the penalty box. Garbin ripped a hard, screaming shot toward the lower corner of the net, but again Vancouver's Bagshawe there to get a hand on it and push it over the endline.

Vancouver got on the board in the 30th minute as Vancouver's Katie Thorlakson made a run throught the heart of the Seattle midfield. She then calmy slid a pass through the right side of the box to a streaking Kara Lany who slotted the ball into the lower, left corner of the net past the outstretched hands of the Sounders keeper, Lisa Brookens. Kelli Smith of the Sounders almost answered five minutes later as she beat a Vancouver defender on the left wing and whipped the ball across the goal mouth; but a Vancouver defender got a head to the ball and cleared it out of danger.

The Whitecaps got some insurance in the 83rd minute of the match. Vancouver forward Amber Allen took the ball through the right side of the box and cut it back, losing her defender. Allen then curled the ball into the upper, left side of the goal past Brookens.
