Match report from Sounders FC:

For the first time in the 2011 season, the Sounders FC reserves tasted defeat, falling 2-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC reserves at Swangard Stadium (Burnaby, BC), dropping to 7-1-0 in the MLS reserve division.

O'Brian White, Brad Evans and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado all returned from injuries and Nate Jaqua scored while Josh Ford recorded three saves in the losing effort.

"When you get as many chances as we get, especially on the road, and you don't put them away, then you're going to pay for it," said Sounders FC assistant coach Ezra Hendrickson, who heads the reserve team.

Vancouver scored in the 21st minute when Davide Chiumiento found Michael Nanchoff for a blast from the left side that crossed up Ford and found the back of the net.

Seattle only managed one shot in the first half, a shot from outside the box by newly signed midfielder Amadou Sanyang.

Mike Fucito opened the second half with a shot in the 46th minute and another from close range in the 49th minute, but he missed high on the first and Joe Cannon made a solid save from the seat of his pants on the second.

In the 53rd minute, Seattle finally broke through. Miguel Montaņo carried the ball up the left side and cut the ball across to Lamar Neagle, who pushed up the right side of the box. Neagle then found Jaqua charging from the left side and Jaqua hammered a shot past the on-coming Cannon for the goal to even it up at 1-1.

Vancouver bounced right back though when Long Tan raced up the left side and rocketed a shot past Ford for the 2-1 lead.

"The second goal was a defensive mistake, but all-in-all, even if we give up two goals, we had three sitters that we had to capitalize on," Hendrickson said.

Seattle pressed for the equalizer late in the match, mostly from close range, but couldn't get past Cannon and suffered their first loss in the reserve division season.

We have two more games and we've got to go out and get a point in the next two games," Hendrickson said.

The Sounders next reserve match is scheduled for October 10 at Starfire against the San Jose Earthquakes, however they still have to make up a rescheduled match against Chivas USA that was originally scheduled for April 10.

They remain one win away from clinching the Western Division title.

Live blog from Sounders FC's Matt Gaschk:

For those wondering, substitute Danny Barrera is a UC Santa Barbara player that opted to leave college. He would need to go through the waiver draft to go to an MLS team.

The Sounders will be in shale today while Vancouver is in all white. It's a nice sunny afternoon here in Burnaby. From what I can see, there looks to be about 30-40 people - looks to be just friends and family.

Vancouver takes the opening kick and we are under way.

1: Vancouver leads Omar Salgado up the left side, but Taylor Graham shields him and it goes away for a goal kick.

2: Good buildup up the right side by Seattle, but they are slowed and the ball goes back the other way.

3: Taylor Graham deflects the ball away for a corner kick. Brad Evans defends Omar Salgado on the corner kick and forces him into the corner, where he has to play the ball backwards and soon after Seattle takes possession.

7: Lamar Neagle is played the ball on the left side, but is flagged offside.

10: Seattle is pressuring the Vancouver defense right now, getting good push from the outside backs - Michael Tetteh and David Estrada.

11: David Estrada gets up the right side, but his cross at the endline goes right into the waiting hands of Joe Cannon.

16: Omar Salgado booms a cross from the left side, but it goes through to Michael Tetteh on the other side.

17: O'Brian White heads down a long ball out of the box from Amadou Sanyang and Mike Fucito is fouled before he can get the ball forward.

18: Amadou Sanyang hits a ball from 24 yards out that spilled out to him, but misses high for a goal kick.

Evans is playing a bit in front of Sanyang in the middle of midfield. Seamon and Neagle have now swapped sides, with Neagle now on the right and Seamon on the left.

21: Michael Nanchoff blasts a shot past Josh Ford from 16 yards out for a goal off an assist from Davide Chiumiento. Great shot from the Whitecaps to get on the board first 1-0.

24: Josh Ford punches away a Vancouver free kick, knocking it away for a corner kick.

25: Mike Fucito knocks the ball off of Russell Teibert for a Seattle corner kick.

The grass is really slowing the ball down - not sure if it is long grass or if it's just playing slow.

30: Great ball by O'Brian White from midfield to lead Lamar Neagle into the box on the right side, but the ball slows up on the grass and Neagle's touch knocks it easily to Joe Cannon.

31: Another good ball forward finds O'Brian White at the top of the box, but the flag goes up. It was either an offside call on Lamar Neagle, who was close by or a handball on O'Brian White.

33: Omar Salgado gets away with one as he looks to be offside when he takes a pass up the middle, but his shot goes wide for a goal kick.

34: Lamar Neagle takes a hard foul just outside the box and a yellow card goes to Jeb Brovsky, though it was Michael Nanchoff was the one who committed the foul.

36: Phillipe Davies goes down holding his right knee and play stops while he is tended to by the medical staff on hand. Davies is ushered off the field and play resumes.

40: Mike Fucito turns a half-volley on frame, but it lands in the hands of Joe Cannon.

41: David Estrada sends a long ball into the box for O'Brian White, but it goes just over his head and away for a goal kick.

43: David Estrada overlaps up the right side and crosses it to the box, but it is grabbed by Joe Cannon before anyone can get a head to it.

46+: Vancouver sends a long ball in from the right side, but Josh Ford snags it in the middle of the box.

46+: Davide Chiumiento blasts another left-footed shot from the top of the box, but misses high and the referee blows the whistle for halftime. Whitecaps FC 1, Sounders FC 0.

Ianni is on for Hurtado, Jaqua on for White, Montano is on for Evans to start for the second half. For Vancouver, Wes Knight is on for Jay Demerit.

Now the second half is under way.

46: Mike Fucito shoots from the left side, but misses high for a goal kick.

From right to left, Seattle's midfield is now Neagle, Sanyang, Seamon, Montano.

49: Lamar Neagle races up the right side and gets into the box before passing to Mike Fucito, who gets a touch on the ball before Joe Cannon makes the grab from the seat of his pants.

50: Nizar Khalfan sends a ball into the box from the right side, but Josh Ford makes the grab.

53: Miguel Montano leads Lamar Neagle up the right side. Neagle got behind the Vancouver defense and passed to Nate Jaqua coming down the left side of the box and Jaqua thumped it past Joe Cannon for the goal. Sounders FC 1, Whitecaps FC 1.

55: Miguel Montano gets in behind the defense on the right side off a ball from Nate Jaqua and is fouled from behind for a free kick 6 yards out and 3 yards outside the box.

56: Mike Seamon finds Taylor Graham for a quick header at the near post, but it misses wide for a goal kick.

57: Long Tan gets up the left side and pounds a shot past Josh Ford for the goal. Whitecaps FC 2, Sounders FC 1. Tan came on at halftime for Davies.

59: Jeb Brovsky gets to a ball in the box, but his shot goes just over the crossbar for a goal kick.

63: Amadou Sanyan clears away a We Knight cross from the right side while the center backs are occupied by two approaching attackers.

64: Danny Barrera subs on for Lamar Neagle.

64: Alexandre Morfaw is on for Russell Teibert.

Barrera is playing on the right side of midfield.

69: Good save by Josh Ford to stop a shot from Michael Nanchoff.

72: Patrick Ianni gets on the end of a Mike Fucito free kick, but knocks it wide for a goal kick.

81: Patrick Ianni clears a cross from Michael Nanchoff away for a corner kick.

83: Michael Nanchoff shoots from the left side, but Josh Ford makes the save.

84: Mike Fucito turns on a bouncing ball from Nate Jaqua from 6 yards out, but Joe Cannon is there for the point-blank save.

88: Ben Fisk subs on for Omar Salgado.

88: Mike Fucito sends a lazer cross to Nate Jaqua, but it goes just in front of him and through to the other side. David Estrada keeps possession and swings it back to the left side, where Michael Tetteh crosses it into the box, but Joe Cannon pushes it away.

89: Seattle continues to pressure and Mike Seamon gets to a shot after Joe Cannon is pulled off his line, but it is cleared by Alexandre Morfaw. David Estrada gets another effort from 22 yards out, but hits the right post and goes away for a goal kick.

91+: Nate Jaqua heads a long throw into the middle of the box. Miguel Montano gets a foot to it, but knocks it off of his own player in the box. His second attempt misses high for a goal kick.

92+: Nizar Khalfan gets a shot away up the left side, but Josh Ford parries it over the bar for a Vancovuer corner. After Vancouver plays the short corner the referee blows his whistle to end the match.

The Sounders suffer their first loss in reserve league action, 2-1 to the Whitecaps FC.
