Sounders Ching, O'Brien, Gregor and Burpo Named to All-League Teams

The Seattle Sounders saw four of their own named to the A-League 2002 All-League teams, announced earlier today. Brian Ching, Leighton O'Brien and Andrew Gregor nabbed first team honors with Preston Burpo receiving second team recognition.

Ching finished the season 2nd in the A-League scoring race with 16 goals and 8 assists, 40 points. The 6-0 forward was second in the league in goals scored, 4th in assists and 3rd in shots taken.

O'Brien dished out 11 assists during the 2002 regular season campaign, good for 1st place. He added 13 goals and finished with 37 points, 3rd place in the league's scoring race. Midfielder Andrew Gregor notched nine goals and three assists over the course of the year finishing in the top 20 in league scoring.

Sounder keeper Preston Burpo anchored a solid Sounder defense. He was 4th in goals against average with an impressive 1.00, 4th in shutouts with six and first in wins with 20. Burpo faced 246 shots over the 28-game season and was kept busy making 105 saves.

Sounder head coach Brian Schmetzer commented, "These guys certainly played important roles with our club this year." He continued, "Preston was a rock back there and Leighton, Brian and Andrew led an offense that did special things."
