Sounders Sign Sean Michael Callahan

(Seattle, WA) - The Seattle Sounders today announced the signing of midfielder Sean Michael Callahan. Callahan played last year with the A-League's Hampton Roads Mariners.

Callahan signed with the Rochester Raging Rhinos in 2002 but was loaned to the Mariners. With Hampton Roads he played in 15 matches and notched 3 goals and 2 assists.

The 2001 season saw Callahan with the Atlanta Silverbacks. He was second in the team in scoring with 7 goals and 6 assists while appearing in 24 matches. After the 2001 season, Callahan was chosen to represent the A-League on an All-Star team that traveled to Portugal.

"I'm looking forward to coming to Seattle," said Callahan, finishing up his accounting job duties in Sacramento, CA. "The Sounders system fits me and I think I'll be a better player by playing with the Sounders. This team already has key people in place and I'm looking to be a guy on the left side who can work hard and help this team win."

"Sean's an explosive player with a lethal left foot that has had very good success at the A-League level," said Sounder head coach Brian Schmetzer.

The 5-8 Callahan graduated from Santa Clara University and is a native of Sacramento. He played in two final fours at Santa Clara and led the team in minutes played during his senior season.

Callahan will join the Sounders training camp on April 13th.
