From today's Sounders news release:
(Seattle, WA) – The Seattle Sounders today announced the resigning of midfielder Viet Nguyen.
Nguyen, a Federal Way native, scored eight goals and added seven assists in the Sounders' record breaking 2002 season. His 23 points tied him for 13th in A-League scoring. One goal was scored in the Sounders historic win over the Vancouver Whitecaps inside Seahawks Stadium on July 28th.
After testing the free agent market, Nguyen put pen to paper last week at the Sounders front office.
"I was looking at some other clubs but decided Seattle was the best fit for me," said Nguyen via cell phone on Monday. "I'm looking forward to playing the entire season inside Seahawks Stadium."
The University of Washington graduate was the Sounders' 1999 territorial draft selection. His four-year Sounder totals include 13 goals, 18 assists and 7,230 minutes played.
"We're happy to have Viet back," said Sounder head coach Brian Schmetzer. "He had a solid 2002 season and we'll look for more great things this year as we head into Seahawks Stadium."
