From today's Sounders news release:
(Seattle, WA) – The Seattle Sounders open training camp on April 1st and will play six exhibition matches during the month of April in preparation for the 2003 A-League season.
When training camp kicks off April 1, head coach Brian Schmetzer will welcome returning and newly signed Sounders, three players from Sounder open tryouts and invite-only recent college graduates.
Training camp takes place at the University of Washington between 8-10 am. Beginning in May, the Sounders will train inside Seahawks Stadium.
The Sounder exhibition schedule begins on April 4th in Poulsbo, WA against the Seattle University Falcons and wraps up April 27th in Kent against a Liga Hispana select squad.
April 4 – Poulsbo – Seattle University
April 6 – Burlington – WSSA U-23
April 12 – Yakima – Yakima Reds
April 19 – Bellingham – Vancouver Whitecaps
April 25 – Bremerton – Oregon State University
April 27 – Kent – Liga Hispana Select
George Campbell, host of the April 4th match in Poulsbo stated, "The Sounders continue to give us an opportunity to raise support for North Kitsap County soccer associations. Last year we were able to profit over $6,000 thanks to the Sounders."
"Exhibition games give us a chance to get out into the community," said Schmetzer. "And of course it gives our coaching staff a chance to take a look at some things heading into the season."
The Sounders home opener in Seahawks Stadium is May 2 against the Portland Timbers.
