Sounders sign A-League 2001 Rookie of the Year, receive international experience

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders signed midfielder Robbie Aristodemo of the San Diego Sockers of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). Aristodemo, from Etobicoke, Ontario, adds an international element to the Sounders 2004 roster.

The 5'6" midfielder was drafted by the A-League Toronto Lynx in 2001, where he won A-League Rookie of the Year and team MVP honors. In 2002, Aristodemo led the league in minutes played with 2614. In three seasons with the Lynx, Aristodemo played in 72 games, scored three goals and had 11 assists.

"I look forward to the opportunity to help push the Sounders to a championship," said Aristodemo. "The Sounders are a top quality organization; I'm excited for a change in scenery and am excited to come to Seattle. I really just want to be able to fit in and contribute."

As the top pick of the San Diego Sockers in the 2002 MISL Designation Draft of A-League players, Aristodemo brought his skills indoors. In 2002, Aristodemo was once again a rookie of the year candidate. This season for the Sockers, Aristodemo has six goals and seven assists in 26 games, with nine games remaining in the Sockers regular season.

Aristodemo brings international soccer experience to the Sounders. Before turning professional, Aristodemo was selected to represent Canada at the U20 World Championships, and in 2000 was a member of the Canadian Men's National Team that won the Gold Cup trophy.

Attending college in the United States, Aristodemo graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in exercise science. Aristodemo's collegiate soccer career included three First-Team All-WAC honors and a First-Team All-MVC selection.

Earning the Toronto Lynx 2002 Public Relations Award, Aristodemo has been recognized for his work in the various communities which he has played in.

"We are excited to add Robbie to our 2004 roster," Said Sounders General Manager Adrian Hanauer. "He is a very crafty and quick player who will add depth to an already strong midfield."

Aristodemo will join the Sounders in mid-April, as they prepare for opening day of the 2004 season on May 1st in Portland against the Timbers.
