First, Seattle traded it to Portland along with an international roster spot, getting the number 20 overall pick and allocation money in return. Then Portland traded the pick to Houston for allocation money. Houston got a steal with the pick, taking forward Will Bruin, whom most of the writers considered the third best player in the draft.
Michael Tetteh was a steal, as every writer that posted a mock draft had Tetteh projected to the first round. He is a Generation adidas player, so he is already under contract with the league and will surely be on the roster when the season opens. Other than Tetteh, the Sounders steered clear of players rated more highly by the soccer raters and instead picked players based the club's own scouting and own combine (in Las Vegas last month).
The draft will continue on Jan 18 with three more rounds in the Supplemental Draft.
The roster now has 32 names on it. The limit is 30 for the 2011 season, so at least two will be cut in training camp. Six roster spots are reserved for players age 24 and under, but two of the 30 slots are reserved for homegrown players and the Sounders don't have any on the roster yet. It would not be surprising to see the team add another well-paid player using the allocation dollars they received today from trading down from the first round. Longshots will come and go from the the "possible" list. Next week's Supplemental Draft has three rounds, then there will be the open tryouts and various trialists appearing during camp. The competition for roster spots will start when camp opens on Jan 25.

Jan 3 - From the Colorado Rapids: Colorado sign veteran defender Marshall: Jamaican center back returns to team that drafted him in 1998. So in the end, Colorado and Seattle effectively swap veteran center backs Marshall (age 36) and Julien Baudet (32nd birthday next week). An advantage for Colorado is that Marshall has a green card and doesn't take up an international spot on the roster.
