Match report by Ron Stickney:

The Seattle Sounders won 5-2 over their development team, the Seattle Sounders Select. The match was played on the Olympic Peninsula, in Silverdale. Playing in his first preseason match for the Sounders was long-haired midfielder Darren Sawatzky, who was on his way to playing for the Sounders in 1999 before being picked up by the Colorado Rapids in the MLS supplemental draft. Sawatzky assisted on tonight's first two goals. Brian Wood had two goals in the first half, including the match winner.

First Half
The first half was nearly all in favor of the A-League side.

26' Nguyen (Sawatzky). Sawatzky crossed from the left side of the penalty area and Viet Nguyen ran in to head the ball into the upper left corner.

33' Wood (Sawatzky). Sawatzky centered the ball into the penalty area for Wood, who ran on and hit the shot first time, scoring into the center of the net.

40' Wood (Henderson). Sean Henderson from the left side sent a low cross into the penalty area for Wood, who ran through the center of the area, and headed the ball to the upper center of the net for a goal.

Halftime:  Sounders 3 - 0 Sounders Select
To start the second half, the teams switched ends but the goalkeepers didn't! Jonas Tanzer stayed in the north goal and played for the Sounders, while Bill May stayed in the south goal and played for the Sounders Select. Midway in the half, May was replaced by Conrad Jones.

55' Howes (Wood). Greg Howes headed straight for goal, working a wall pass with Wood  at the 18 to earn the shot. Howes put a low shot from 10 yards past the collapsing May.

Hamid Utush was on only three minutes before having to leave injured.

78' Schaffer (Atkinson). Kevin Atkinson of the Select was served a through ball and got a touch on it just before goalkeeper Tanzer could get there. Atkinson and Tanzer slid into each other hard and the ball popped in front of the goal. Robbie Schaffer beat two defenders to the ball and finished the goal. Schaffer reportedly graduated from Olympic High School, where the match was being played.

80' Gregor (Nguyen). Nguyen's pass put Andrew Gregor through running at the left post. Gregor scored with a low shot that went in off the base of the far post.

87' Ruiz (Barney). Manny Ruiz of the Select, a Sounders draft pick, received from Chris Barney and carried the ball into the left side of the penalty area, bending a nice shot inside the far post to close the scoring.
