The Seattle Sounders Select came from behind to defeat the Cascade Surge 2-1 in Salem, OR. Select midfielder Ben Somoza scored the match winner in the 70th minute.

Cascade jumped out to 1-0 lead when Shannon Hopkins scored in the first minute from a pass by Chris McDonald. Seattle came back to tie the score at 1-1 with forward Andy Smith's goal in the 22nd minute off a pass from Billy Sleeth.

Somoza scored his goal unassisted in the 70th minute. Somoza collected an errant pass about 35 yards from goal. He was able to move around two Surge defenders and continue towards goal. Somoza hit a hard shot from the top of the penalty area that found the top right corner.

This was a very physical match, with both sides having players ejected. Select midfielder Chad Brown was ejected in the 50th minute for his second yellow card. Surge midfielder Roger Groom received a red card in the 55th minute for a foul. Select defender Billy Sleeth was ejected for a violent foul in the 79th minute.

Select goalkeeper Chad Olsen made one save to earn the victory. Sounder forward Joe Watson was taken to a Salem hospital before the match for an emergency appendectomy. Forward Ian Chursky left the game in the 33rd minute with an injured quad muscle.
