Match report per the Sounders:

The Seattle Sounders gave up three goals in a four-minute span and lost 3-1 to the San Diego Flash FC in San Diego, CA. The loss hurts Seattle's chances of making the playoffs. The Sounders trail the Portland Timbers by five points for the 12th and final A-League playoff position with three matches remaining.

The Flash exploded for three goals in a four minute span, taking advantage of Sounders backup goalkeeper Rich Cullen. Starter Preston Burpo left the match at halftime, due to injury. Forward Emmanuel Ayim (56th minute), forward Thiago Martins (57th minute) and midfielder Nate Hetherington (59th minute) got the ball past Cullen.

Seattle had taken a 1-0 lead when midfielder Kei Kinoshita scored his third goal of the season in the 43rd minute. Midfielder Jason Farrell got the ball on a counterattack in the San Diego end. Farrell passed to Kinoshita, who had just gone inside the penalty area. Kinoshita went one on one with the Flash goalkeeper Matt Hall. Kinoshita was able to move around Hall and slot the ball into the empty net for the goal.

Seattle received a scare when forward Brian Ching collided heads with San Diego defender PJ Brown in the first half. Both were on the ground for five minutes. Both were able to continue, but Ching came out at halftime for forward Rees Bettinger.

The Sounders struggled offensively; creating only six shots on goal. Hall only had to make one save to record the victory. Seattle had the services of Ching and Isaias Bardales Jr, who both started and were on loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS).

Seattle will play the next two matches without the services of defender Kieran Barton, who is suspended because of yellow card points.
