The Seattle Sounders Select exploded for three goals in the second half in defeating the Yakima Reds 5-2 in a Friday afternoon match at Seattle Memorial Stadium. Seattle native Joe Watson had his first ever hat trick for the Select. With the victory, the Select Men finish the home regular season with a record of 8-2.

Seattle opened the scoring in the 6th minute on a one-two combination. Forward Greg Foisie found Watson open in front of the net with his pass. Watson took a quick shot that found the upper left corner of the net.

The Select increased their lead to 2-0 when midfielder Todd Stauber sent a good angle pass to forward Alex Lilly for a goal in the 24th minute. Lilly had a clear angle to the Yakima goal. Lilly's shot found the lower left corner of the net.

Yakima cut the Select lead to 2-1 when Joe Bensch scored in the 32nd minute on a pass from Mike Schefter. Select midfielder Abbas Fardinia prevented the Reda from tying the score when he had a goal line clearance of a shot by Scott Bertram in the 37th minute.

The second half was all Seattle has they outscored Yakima, 3-1. Greg Foisie scored in the 48th minute on a pass from Todd Stauber to increase their lead to 3-1.

Yakima cut the Select lead to 3-2 when Brad Suhm slammed in a goal from in front of the six-yard box in the 50th minute. The pass came from Joe Bensch.

Watson scored his 2nd goal of the match in the 61st minute. A foul by Yakima defender Santa Maria at the top arc of the penalty area set up a free kick. Watson took a low shot, bending the ball around the Yakima wall for the goal. Watson added his third goal in the 66th minute, with Stauber getting his third assist.

The victory keeps the Select in second place in the Northwest Division, with three games remaining.

"We were not the most organized in the first half. The second half was a lot better and we were able to get some more goals. Joe Watson is an offensive talent for us. Hopefully we can keep the goal coming on Sunday in Cascade."
