Match report from the Sounders:

The Seattle Sounders defeated the Virginia Beach Mariners 5-1 Friday night at the Starfire Sports Complex. Cam Weaver scored three first half goals to secure the Sounders' rookie scoring record, while Maykel Galindo and Roger Levesque each added one goal to the bottom line. Cam Weaver is now three goals away from setting the Sounders' all-time goal mark for one season.

The Sounders offense was firing on all cylinders in the first half of the game.

Cam Weaver kicked off the scoring for the Sounders in the 2nd minute of the match. Fellow forward Maykel Galindo battled his way up the left side of the Mariners defense before laying a perfect ball across the goal mouth for Weaver. Weaver smashed home his 16th goal of the season with ease.

Cam did not wait long to return the favor. In the 14th minute Weaver assisted Galindo on the second Sounders goal of the match. Galindo chested down a Weaver pass inside the eighteen prior to volleying the ball home. Galindo's shot hovered just below the cross bar and did not stop rising until it hit the back of the net.

The Sounders would not stop at scoring two first half goals. Cam Weaver notched his second goal of the game in the 23rd minute. The play developed when Maykel Galindo slipped Weaver in behind the last two Mariners defenders. Cam took one touch to rocket a shot over the outstretched arms of Mariners goalkeeper Matthew Nelson.

The Mariners would get one back in the 27th minute when forward Greg Simmonds found the back of the net. Simmonds settled a ball inside the Sounder eighteen and turned to strike a left footed volley. Simmonds was roughly 10 yards out when he took the shot that found the left corner of the goal.

The Sounders offense grabbed their fourth goal of the first half in minute 35, thanks to another Galindo and Weaver connection. Galindo sprinted from halfway with the ball at his feet and two defenders on his heels. The forward found just enough space to blast a shot off the crossbar and back down to a well prepared Cam Weaver on the back post. Weaver calmly played the rebound into the net with the instep of his right foot to complete his hat trick before the end of the first half.

The Sounders kept their goal hungry fans happy by scoring a late second half goal to stretch the lead to four. Kevin Sakuda found Roger Levesque in the 85th minute for what would be the last goal of the game. Sakuda's cross was well paced and directed right toward Levesque's head. Levesque nodded the ball back down into the far corner and sprinted gleefully to the sideline to celebrate with his teammates on the bench.
