Match report from the Sounders:

Andre Schmid proved, once again, that the Sounders aren't lacking for scoring options up front. Schmid scored two goals and had one assist in the Sounders 5-0 victory over the Seattle Pacific University Falcons, Saturday night at Lake Stevens High School.

While the score may have been lopsided, the game was not missing a competitive feel. With 27 fouls, the game was physical and the Falcons proved they weren't intimidated by the area's professional franchise.

The first ten minutes of the game saw neither team gain a significant advantage as the Sounders struggled to gel, fielding six trial players in the starting line-up. In the tenth minute, the Sounders got their first clear opportunity when Colin Rigby broke away for a one on one match-up with goalkeeper Kaleb Kuehn. Rigby fired from just inside the 18 yard box but Kuehn blocked the shot and the ball rolled out for a throw-in.

The Sounders continued to press, dominating possession and repeatedly firing crosses into the box, but the team lacked a finishing touch around goal.

In the 28th minute, they got their breakthrough when Andre Schmid received a cross from Craig Tomlinson on the left wing and put the ball in the back of the net. Jason Cascio nearly scored a minute later with a brilliant run through the SPU backline, but his shot just missed left.

The Falcons never seriously challenged the Sounders throughout the first half and had only one shot on goal to the Sounders seven.

As the half approached, the Sounders had numerous chances but failed to find the back of the net. Their best chance came in the 43rd minute when Andre Schmid looked sure to bag his second goal with an open header right in front of the net, but Kaleb Kuehn made a brilliant save and the sides went into half, the Sounders holding a 1-0 advantage.

The sides came out in the second half in a steady downpour with the Sounders looking to kill the Falcons hopes early. A Jason Cascio header off a corner kick in the 46th minute was just high over the crossbar.

The 55th minute saw the second goal as Schmid dribbled through the SPU backline and passed to Brett Hite who put it in the back of the net.

The goal seemed to deflate SPU and the Sounders scored two more times in the next five minutes, one from Andre Schmid and one from Jason Cascio.

With the match in the bag, the Sounders sat back a little, but SPU struggled to create any opportunities. The Sounders scored again in the 83rd minute on an own goal. After the fifth goal, the match became more physical and Jono Henness received the game's first yellow card in the 85th minute for shouldering Kenji Treschuk hard to the ground.
