The lone goal was set up in the midway through the second half when David Hoggan broke away down Colorado's right flank. After beating two Fox defenders and drawing out goalkeeper Trey Harrington, Hoggan passed to Geoff Aunger, who scored from 12 yards out.

Colorado outshot the Sounders 10-3, but Seattle keeper Dusty Hudock earned his second consecutive shutout with six saves. Hudock played last season with the MLS Colorado Rapids. Hudock has a 0.33 goals against average after three games, all against foes from last year's A-League.

"The fans here know Dusty very well," said Sounders coach Neil Megson. "I know he wanted to come back and show them something."

Canadian national team member Geoff Aunger politely waited until his third game to score his first goal of the season, the first two games having been played against his 1995 club, the Vancouver 86ers.

The Sounders have now played in three consecutive home openers (including their own), all won by a lone goal from the visitors. Seattle's record is now 2-0-0-1 (W-SW-SL-L).
