The Seattle Sounders got a late second half goal from Mark Baena in the 78th minute, his second of the game, to defeat the Seattle Sounders Selects (reserve team), 2-1 in a preseason match played Saturday night before 1,063 at Olympic High School Stadium in Silverdale, WA. The Selects tied the score at 1-1 when Kei Kinoshita scored off a Sounders defensive mistake in the 37th minute. The Sounders took the early lead when Baena scored his first goal of the match in the 15th minute. The Selects were able to stay close thanks to the play of their goalkeeper, Jonas Tanzer, who made nine saves including stopping two breakaways.

The Sounders complete their 1999 preseason with a 6-1 record, winning six straight and only allowing one goal in their last four matches.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
10- SEA- Russell takes a shot from 15 yards out, Tanzer makes the save.
13- SEA- Waibel collects an errant pass from a Selects defender in the penalty area. Waibel shoots from just outside the goal box and forces Tanzer to make the save. Tanzer cannot control the rebound, but Russell shoots the ball wide.
15- SEA- Russell makes a nice run down the right side of the field with the ball to the right of the penalty area and sends a low cross across the penalty area to Baena. Baena runs onto the ball and slots his shot to the top left corner past Tanzer for a goal. SEA- 1, SELECTS- 0.
19- SEA- Baena hard shot from 18 yards out, Tanzer makes the save.
37- SELECTS- A Sounders defensive mistake in clearing the ball out leaves Kinoshita with the ball at the center top of the penalty box. Kinoshita just lobs the ball over Burpo who had come too far out of net. SEA- 1, SELECTS- 1.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
47- SEA- Russell shoots from 15 yards out, Tanzer makes the save.
55- SEA- Nguyen takes a shot and hits the post and bounces it over the net from 12 yards out.
57- SEA- Baena has a breakaway in on goal. Tanzer comes out to cut down the angle and is able to make a nice save by blocking the shot.
65- SEA- Barton takes a tough angle shot, Tanzer makes the save.
75- SEA- Russell takes a shot that Tanzer saves, Baena tries a header on goal, Tanzer makes a second save.
78- SEA- Jenkins crosses into the left side of the penalty area. Baena moves in front of the goalkeeper to collect the ball and is able shoot past to the left in the short side past Tanzer. SEA- 2, SELECTS- 1.
81- SELECTS- Kinoshita hard shot from 20 yards out goes wide right.
87- SEA- Russell has a breakaway in on goal. His shot just goes wide right, past the beaten Tanzer.
