The Seattle Sounders were defeated 2-0 by the
Bay Area Seals in Hayward, CA, to start their 3-match road trip. Former
Sounder Ryan Edwards scored the match winner for Bay Area on a header in
the 69th minute, assisted by Jeff Baicher.
The Seals received an insurance goal from Aman Kebreab in the 86th
minute. Kebreab received a long pass from Tim Weaver and was able to dribble
into the penalty area. Kebreab went one-on-one with Sounders goalkeeper
Preston Burpo, who came out of net, and Kebreab was able to bet by Burpo
and score into an empty net.
In a physical game, Sounders defender Kieran Barton was sent off in
the 63rd minute for a foul on Edwards.
Seals goalkeeper Jason Petronis made two saves to earn his first shutout
of the year. Seattle had won eight straight matches against Bay Area dating
back to 1998 before tonight's loss.
