Kinoshita's goal was from 10 yards out off a pass from midfielder Sean Henderson. The Sounders had the ball on a counterattack. Henderson controlled the ball on the right side of the El Paso penalty area. Henderson sent a ball across the penalty area for Kinoshita. Kinoshita took a right-footed shot first time. His low shot went in the left center of the net, past the Patriots goalkeeper Jesse Llamas who was not able to get over in time. El Paso were short two players for 12 minutes after their second ejection. Vicente Figueroa (39th minute) and Esmundo Rodriguez (57th minute), both former Sounders, were sent off from the match. Sounders midfielder Leighton O'Brien was sent off in 69th minute for a foul he committed against Fredy Juarez.
Seattle took a 1-0 lead when O'Brien scored his team leading sixth goal of the season in the 27th minute. O'Brien was set up by Jason Farrell.
El Paso tied the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute on a counterattack goal by Mark Rowland. El Paso cleared the ball out of their end towards the Sounders end of the pitch. Sounders defender Ali John Utush attempted to clear the ball out. His clearance hit Rowland in his chest and bounced towards the goal. Rowland's momentum carried him towards the goal. Rowland was able to get around Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo and shoot into an empty net.
With the victory, Seattle moved into second place in the Western Conference, seven points behind conference leading Vancouver.
Post-Match Quotes: Sounders Head Coach Bernie James:
"That was the worst professional soccer game I have seen in the long
time. Just thank goodness we that we won. Both teams did not play well.
El Paso is a tough team to play against. All El Paso does is boot the ball,
clear it, and flop after fouls…We (Seattle) have a lot to improve on ourselves."
