In their final match of the season, the Seattle Sounders Select Women gave up two second-half goals in losing 3-1 to the Vancouver Breakers in Burnaby, BC. The loss ended the Select Women's hopes of making the playoffs. Midfielder Sara Maglio scored the maatch-winning goal in the 47th minute, helping Vancouver play the role of spoiler.

The Select Women needed to either win, tie, or score three or more goals to make the playoffs, and were 45 minutes from doing so. Vancouver and Seattle were tied 1-1 at halftime.

Vancouver opened the scoring when forward Diana Artuso scored from 12 yards out in the 8th minute on a pass from Tammy Crawford. Seattle tied the scored when Rachel Rodrick scored in the 31st minute. Select Women's Midfielder Joanie Gerpheide had the ball on the left side in the penalty area. Gerpheide cut back towards the center of the area and passed to Rodrick. Rodrick moved to her right and quickly shot and scored from 12 yards out.

Early in the second half, Vancouver got their match winner when Maglio scored from 12 yards out on a pass from Diana Artuso. The Breakers got an insurance goal when Geri Donnelly scored on a header in the 88th minute on a cross from Lyanne Westie.

Seattle played without four starters and one key sub for this match. Vancouver won the season series over Seattle 3-1-0 (W-D-L). The Breakers advance to the Western Conference Finals, where they will take on the Texas Odyssey on Sunday, August 12, in Vancouver. Texas qualified for the playoffs over Seattle because of a better goal differential.

"This was a great game. I thought that both teams battled tonight. It was very disappointing to give up that second goal. But after that, we still had some chances. Katie (Miyake) unfortunately for us was not able to convert her breakaway."
