Match report from Ron Stickney:
The Seattle Sounders scored a goal late, but gave up a later goal to settle for a draw with the visiting Montreal Impact. Seattle's Andre Schmid scored for the hosts, and Stefano Pesoli equalized for the visitors.
Montreal had the first chance in minute 2, with Leo Di Lorenzo testing goalkeeper Chris Eylander with a long shot that Eylander had to push wide.
Then it was Seattle forcing Matt Jordan to push it wide on Leighton O'Brien's free kick from near the top left corner of the penalty area. In the 14th Josh Gardner was given the ball just to the right for a 20-yard dipping shot, and Jordan parried it away with both arms volleyball style. Schmid tried from 15 yards on the left, and Jordan made another fine save. A cross that bounced through the crowd gave Kenji Treschuk a shot from close, but he skied it.
At 27' Montreal's Pat Leduc tried a long shot up the middle and missed the top corner by a yard.
The last good shot of the half came at 29' for Seattle on a throw-in play when Sébastien Le Toux bounced an 8-yard shot on goal, but Jordan had it covered.
The middle third of the match was devoid of good chances, then it was Le Toux at 60'. After O'Brien broke into the area, the ball was knocked loose and ended up at Le Toux's feet close in, but he poked it wide. Schmid tried from the top of the arc, and it was deflected high and wide for a corner. An indirect free kick play gave Le Toux another close-in shot, but Jordan was there for the save.
80' SEA: Schmid (Le Toux). The goal came on a free kick play. O'Brien took a quick free kick, sending the ball into the top of the penalty area for Le Toux, who put it right in front of goal. Schmid was on a diagonal run and got there first, putting a low shot under Jordan. Schmid had been working hard all evening trying to make something happen, and it seemed inevitable that he would figure in a goal. 1-0 Seattle.
84' MON: Pesoli (Placentino). The lead didn't last long. Seattle gave up a corner kick. Substitute Rocco Placentino sent it to the far post, and someone must have missed an assignment as Pesoli headed it in easily. 1-1.
The final few minutes gave only MOntreal chances for a match winner, the best chance an 88th minute shot that went low past the far post from wide left.
