Match report by Ron Stickney:

The US Pro-40 Select came out attacking and after 10 minutes the scoring was over, 2 goals for the Pro-40 to nil for the Seattle Sounders. Crisp passing near goal led to a score at 8' by Marquis White and another 2 minutes later by Jose Botello.

The Pro-40 are arguably the hottest team in the A-League at 9-1-0-3 (W-SW-SL-L), 39 points. The Sounders appear to be fading fast after winning their first three matches and are now 4-1-0-4, 20 points.

First Half

The first half was dominated by the Pro-40 as they outshot the Sounders 7-3. Seattle's only good shot of the half came at 4' when Peter Hattrup's well-placed free kick from the match's first foul was stopped at the crossbar by Scott Vallow and grabbed.

The Pro-40 tested Seattle at 7' when, from Eric Quill's cross, White dished to Lazo Alavanja for a good shot from the left.

8' White (Wilson). A minute later the Pro-40 were on the board. Alavanja's crisp, far-post cross from the left was laid back along the 6-yard line by Kirk Wilson for the charging White to finish.

10' Botello (Sawatzky). They say that the next couple of minutes after a goal is a crucial time, and the Pro-40 proved best. On a counterattack, Darren Sawatzky sent a pass ahead from the right side and Botello redirected it inside the left post past a diving Preston Burpo to put the Pro-40 up 2-0.

The rest of the half saw 3 yellow cards, but only one good shot. After a Sounders giveaway, Quill's 25-yarder just missed the far post.

Seattle's new 23-year-old midfielder, Christian Michner, came on in the 19th minute for the injured Craig Waibel. In Michner's first appearance in a league match, he lasted just 20 minutes, leaving at 39' with a blown knee after a challenge near the intersection of the halfway line and the right touch line. Michner is probably done for the season.

Halftime: Seattle 0 - 2 US Pro-40 Select

The tide turned at halftime as the Sounders outshot the Pro-40 17-3 in the second half. However, few of the Sounders' shots were strong threats, and none found net.

Hattrup's shot from 25 yards was over the crossbar. Mark Baena's shot/cross was grabbed by Vallow. Ian Russell got a close shot on goal, but was flagged offside. Hattrup's cross/shot was cleared by a defender, but Erik Storkson earned a shot from the clearance, saved by Vallow. Storkson's bicycle kick from Viet Nguyen's cross just missed the top far corner. From Baena's drop inside the penalty area, Storkson's shot was deflected wide by a defender.

Midway in the half, the Pro-40 got their only good shot of the half as Alavanja headed a cross on goal, but Burpo easily saved.

Then the momentum was back in Seattle's favor. From Hattrup's free kick from the right, Jason Annicchero's far-post header was pushed over the top far corner by Vallow. From a throw-in play, Nguyen earned a close shot, blocked by Vallow. The clearance was put back into the area and Vallow and Storkson skied for it, with Vallow just able to pull the ball off Storkson's head. From Hattrup's short cross, Storkson's low, close shot was caught by Vallow for a save.

At 86' Baena got a shot up the middle from 25 yards, but he put it right into Vallow's bread basket. Hattrup was fouled near the left corner flag and his free kick was headed just wide of the top far corner by Russell.

In the final minute, Hattrup's long cross from the left was headed on goal by Storkson and saved at the top far corner by Vallow. Kieran Barton's shot from the right touch line with seconds left just missed the top far corner. 90 minutes worth of shots were taken by Seattle in the half, but no goals changed the scoreboard.
