Eleven of the 32 available players were drafted.

The Cascadia clubs announced that travelling fans will receive access to 500 tickets in Northwest markets. 500 is better than the previous MLS rule of 150, but 500 will fill only about half of the what we estimate the demand to be. This is rather a disappointment. The Cascadia teams are failing to meet the needs of their most ardent customers, the ones who will travel I-5 to attent away matches. We hope that the clubs can learn to embrace 1000 away fans for Cascadia matches in the future in order to maximize the potential of the match day atmosphere. This would be best for MLS, best for the clubs, and most importantly best for the fans (i.e., the customers). We know that not everyone agrees on this, but we really believe it would heighten the match day experience for nearly all involved.

Dec 9 - On the player front, a Swedish article says that 24-year-old midfielder Erik Friberg is leaving BK Häcken (Sweden) with a 3-year contract to Sounders FC, every year an option. Hanauer confirmed that the club is interested in Friberg but did not confirm signing.

Nov 24 - In today's MLS expansion draft the Vancouver Whitecaps took midfielder Sanna Nyassi with their first pick. Seattle then added Patrick Ianni to the protected list. With their third pick Vancouver took midfielder Nathan Sturgis.

Later in the day the Sounders made another surprise move, acquiring forward O'Brian White, whom Vancouver had just taken in the expansion draft. Compensation was allocation money. White is a 3rd-year veteran who played last season for Toronto FC. He checks in at 6'1" and 175 lb.

Another surprise occurred as the Vancouver Whitecaps traded away Sanna Nyassi to the Colorado Rapids for an international roster spot.

Nov 22 - A trade ahead of the expansion draft: Peter Vagenas is traded to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for defenders Julien Baudet and Danny Earls. Baudet is a 31-year-old veteran who started 14 matches for the Rapids this season. Earls is a 21-year-old who started 15 matches for the Rapids this year.

The Sounders protected list: G Kasey Keller, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Jeff Parke, D James Riley, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Brad Evans, M Alvaro Fernandez, M Steve Zakuani, F Mike Fucito, F Nate Jaqua, and F Fredy Montero.

Nov 9 - Thanks to the players, the rest of the club, and also to the fans for making 2010 another successful year, on the whole, for the sophomore franchise. We will remember the year for successfully defending the US Open Cup trophy, for the strong surge in the second half to come from low in the table to qualify for the playoffs with a few points to spare, for getting taught lessons in the CONCACAF Champions League, at the end for turning in a sub-par pair of matches to again get bounced out of the playoffs in the first round, and for again significantly increasing the MLS attendance record.

Nov 7 - Los Angeles Galaxy 2 - 1 Seattle Sounders FC (Buddle 19, Gonzalez 27; Zakuani 86). The Sounders were knocked out of the playoffs in LA, giving up two early goals on set plays and losing 3-1 on aggregate.

Nov 1 - A surprise announcement from Sounders FC: Fredy Montero received a Green Card. This means that Montero no longer takes up an international player spot on the roster.

Regional soccer fans are uniting in an attempt to dissuade the MLS franchise owners from allocating only 150 tickets to visiting fans. Cascadia supporters groups jointly oppose the 150 seat limit for visiting fans and call for clubs to reasonably accommodate traveling fans in 2011. We agree that accomodation of large numbers of travelling fans is important for the regional rivalry and MLS itself. It will allow them to reach their full potential. We suggest a solution: designate a section of about 2,000 seats for visiting fans; for matches against teams other than Vancouver and Portland, make most of those seats available to local fans, depending on projected attendance by away fans.

Oct 24 - The Sounders finished fourth in the Western Conference. Their first playoff opponent will be the Los Angeles Galaxy, who finished at the top of the table.

That would have been a team from El Salvador, except that the country is currently suspended by FIFA for government meddling in football affairs. If the government does not back off by Jun 8, Sounders FC will face a team from elsewhere in Central America. The Philadelphia Union got off to an unfortunate start when rookie Toni Stahl earned two yellow cards in the first half and was sent off. 36,241 fans were in attendance, setting a Sounders record for a league match.

Waivers from other teams are starting to show up as teams digest the new collective bargaining agreement and bring their rosters into compliance by tomorrow.

Mar 20 - Today the MLS and the players union had a press conference to announce the news fans have been waiting patiently for after weeks of strike talk. A 5-year collective bargaining agreement has been agreed to. The major points are:

Mar 18 - Sounders FC were scheduled to play the Colorado Rapids in their Charity Shield match tomorrow, but it was cancelled due to the wintery weather forecast for Denver.

Mar 17 - The trialists have been sorted out. The camp roster is now down to just 26. The cuts were Lamar Neagle, Jamel Wallace, Ellis McLoughlin, and Kevin Souter. Derby Carillo continued to train with the team, but is expected to play for the Kitsap Pumas. Chris Eylander (finger) and Taylor Graham (hamstring) are candidates to start the season on the disabled list. Miguel Montaño was announced as signed.

Mar 15 - Ticket packages were mailed to season ticket holders.

Mar 9 - Ellis McLoughlin, a 19-year-old who played at UW, joined Sounders FC training.

Mar 4 - Big news today, as Sounders FC announced the signing of veteran striker Blaise Nkufo (a.k.a. N'kufo, a.k.a. Kufo), Zaire born, and possibly playing for Switzerland in this summer's World Cup. The announcement confirmed the rumors that appeared on Feb 15. Nkufo will finish the season with FC Twente in the Dutch league and join the Sounders mid July after the World Cup. An interview quotes the player as confirming that his correct name is Kufo, but Nkufo seems to be most widely used by his employers.

MLS qualification for the 2010 US Open Cup was announced by the league. Eight MLS teams will enter in the third round. The top six from the 2009 league table are in, and that includes the second-place Sounders. The other nine teams will compete in single-elimination brackets for two berths.

Mar 3 - Training resumed at Starfire.

Mar 1 - Single match tickets went on sale today. Expect every home match to be a sellout again this year as the Sounders shatter the league attendance record they set last year. Roster compliance day was postponed pending a collective bargaining agreement.

Feb 27 - The Sounders picked up a new trialist from waivers, Scottish midfielder Kevin Souter.

Feb 25 - Adrian Hanauer confirmed that Miguel Montaño will be a Sounder. At 18 years old, the Colombian midfielder will be the youngest player on the team.

Feb 19 - A rumor surfaced that the Sounders are looking at an 18-year-old Colombian, Miguel Montaño.

Feb 15 - 28 players travelled to Spain for training. The biggest surprise is that 2009 expansion draft pick Jeff Parke is in camp. He played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2009. The Sounders still hold Parke's MLS rights. Two rostered players who are recovering from injuries are not making the trip: Nate Jaqua and Terry Boss.

Sounders FC announced the transfer of Jhon Kennedy Hurtado (he was on loan from Deportivo Cali last year), an extension of contract for Brad Evans, and the re-signing of Tyson Wahl.

Another ex-Sounder joins the club staff: Sounders FC names Dick McCormick as academy manager/head coach.

Not surprisingly, MLS and the Players Union agreed to continue to negotiate through Feb. 25, as snow hampered negotiations.

Feb 9 - Kevin Calabro is out as Sounders FC radio/TV announcer before we had even a single flying chicken in the barnyard. Calabro could not tear himself away from NBA matches, and the club wanted a full-time announcer. The new announcer will be Arlo White, who filled in for Collabro for a Seattle - Houston match last season.

Feb 8 - Nate Jaqua is out 2-3 weeks for treatment for osteitis pubis.

Feb 4 - Brad Evans has been called up by the nats again. They will train for a friendly against El Salvador on Feb 24.

Jan 28 - MLS reported that they and the Players Union will continue to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement through Feb 12.

Jan 27 - The club announced that 2010 season ticket sales will be capped at 32,000, and of those less than 1,000 are still available. Last year's average attendance was 30,934, so obviously there will not be the dreaded sophomore slump in attendance that expansion teams often experience. 96% of 2009 season ticket holders renewed. 2010 season ticket packages will include tickets for 3 international friendlies.

The players union and the league reportedly met for 8 hours yesterday and will meet again today.

Jan 26 - After taking flak for his absence, Freddie Ljungberg blogged that he will be in camp Feb 1.

Jan 25 - Sounders FC training camp started. Seven new faces were in camp. They include the three draft picks, David Estrada, Mike Seamon, and Jamel Wallace. Ex-Sounder midfielder Josh Gardner is in, having spent last season with the Carolina RailHawks. Ex-Gonzaga forward Tye Perdido, a Hawaiian native, is in. Israeli midfielder Yakir Lousky was leaked earlier. The biggest surprise is 21-year-old goalkeeper Patrick Lane, who left Loyola Marymount U early and played last season for Cercle Brugge in Belgium's top division. Absent was Freddie Ljungberg, who was perhaps reluctant to join camp with the uncertainty over the collective bargaining agreement.

Jan 19 - Sounders FC reported that Tyrone Marshall has been called up by Jamaica for a Jan 31 friendly with Canada. Sanna Nyassi played for Gambia on Jan 3 against Angola and on Jan 10 against Tunisia.

Jan 14 - Today's MLS SuperDraft and the hours before it saw a few trades, but non involving Seattle. Sounders FC picks were:

Jan 13 - Seattle was included in the final list of 18 cities named as potential hosts for matches in the USA's bid for World Cup 2018 or 2022.

Jan 4 - MLS announced the full roster for the MLS Combine and SuperDraft.

Brad Evans was in camp for the USA national team.
