Apr 22 - Colorado Rapids 0 - 1 Seattle Sounders FC (Montero 19). This match provided major good news and major bad news. The bad news is that in the third minute, Colorado's Brian Mullan retaliated hot-headedly against the nearest opponent after he felt he was fouled (it was trifling, not worth a whistle), and his cleats-first slide into Steve Zakuani's planted right leg broke both leg bones, probably at least a season ending injury for Zakuani. The good news is that Fredy Montero's lone goal gave the Sounders their first road win of the season. The bad news greatly outweighs the good. We (and certainly countless other soccer fans) wish Zakuani a full recovery in due time.

Jan 18 - Sounders FC's Supplemental Draft picks:
Jan 13 - Sounders FC SuperDraft picks:
Seattle's first round pick, number 11 overall, got kicked around. First, Seattle traded it to Portland along with an international roster spot, getting the number 20 overall pick and allocation money in return. Then Portland traded the pick to Houston for allocation money. Houston got a steal with the pick, taking forward Will Bruin, whom most of the writers considered the third best player in the draft.
Michael Tetteh was a steal, as every writer that posted a mock draft had Tetteh projected to the first round. He is a Generation adidas player, so he is already under contract with the league and will surely be on the roster when the season opens. Other than Tetteh, the Sounders steered clear of players rated more highly by the soccer raters and instead picked players based the club's own scouting and own combine (in Las Vegas last month).
The draft will continue on Jan 18 with three more rounds in the Supplemental Draft.
The roster now has 32 names on it. The limit is 30 for the 2011 season, so at least two will be cut in training camp. Six roster spots are reserved for players age 24 and under, but two of the 30 slots are reserved for homegrown players and the Sounders don't have any on the roster yet. It would not be surprising to see the team add another well-paid player using the allocation dollars they received today from trading down from the first round.
